North Atlanta High Parents Left with More Questions Than Answers

The community meeting held on Tuesday evening to address concerns surrounding the sudden changes at North Atlanta High, following the principal's resignation announcement, only left parents with more questions and few answers.

North Atlanta High parents were surprised to learn that their principal Dr. Howard "Gene" Taylor would not be the new North Region Executive Director, at least not yet.

Taylor announced his resignation Friday as NAHS principal after less than a year on the job. He was to take a job as a principal at a Gwinnett County high school, but, in an effort to keep him in the district, was offered a promotion as the North Region Executive Director of Atlanta Public Schools. On Monday, just a couple hours before the community meeting, the APS Board of Education did not approve the promotion. Taylor can still apply and compete for the position, however.

Many parents first learned of the BOE vote at the community meeting, which was held at Garden Hills Elementary School from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
