North Atlanta Rated as Most College Ready APS School by U.S. News and World Report

We've got a comparative breakdown with top ranked Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. The public charter in Lawrenceville was ranked the No. 3 best public high school in the nation by the magazine, and No. 1 in Georgia.

 

North Atlanta High School did not rank in the nation or state on the recently released U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools list. 

However, out of all 20 APS schools, North Atlanta had the highest college readiness score–only 34.5 out of 100– on the magazine's college readiness index, making it APS' most college-ready school, according to the magazine's rating.

U.S News looked at test scores based on student performance on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level course work, and found the Gwinnett charter school to be 100 percent proficient in English, math and college readiness.

North Atlanta High School is 89 percent proficient in English, 79 percent in math, according to U.S. News.

None of the schools in the Atlanta Public Schools district were ranked by the magazine, but three were recognized as "Best High Schools"– Early College High School at Carver, Tech High School and The School of Arts at Carver.

U.S. News and World Report used three factors to determine the rankings:

  • Analysts looked at how well students at the schools performed statewide.
  • If less advantaged students (defined as black, Hispanic and low-income) performed better than their peers in the state.
  • The school’s college readiness index based on Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.
