North Atlanta HS Student Named 2013 National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Ian Katz has been added to the list of APS students named as a 2013 finalist.

Ian Katz, of North Atlanta High School, has been named a 2013 National Merit Scholarship Corporation Finalist. Ian is one of seven high school students in the Atlanta Public School system to be named as a finalist for the award, according to the APS Blog.

According to the National Merit Corporation, "the National Merit and Achievement Scholarship is one of the most coveted recognitions a high school student could achieve."

The students were chosen based on their GPA, SAT scores, personal essays/applications, and school evaluation. Ian Katz made it past 16,000 semifinalists and is among roughly 8,000 students nationwide who will receive a scholarship from the National Merit Corporation.

Congrats to this young man, but that's it? One? A high school of that size and that's the best NAHS can do is produce one National Merit Scholarship Finalist? How very sad. Again, a testament to the failure of APS.
