Pace Academy Chooses Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Michael Christianson was chosen as Valedictorian, while Cameron Winders was named Salutatorian.

Michael Christianson – Valedictorian
A student at Pace since the fifth grade, Michael plans to study physics at Columbia University in the fall.

Michael has been an incredibly active member of the Pacecommunity, never afraid to try a new activity or undertake a project. He is Pace’s 2012 STAR Student, and a member of the math, debate, Quiznet, Hi-Q, robotics and chess teams. He plays viola and tennis and is a frequent contributor to Knight Gallery, Pace’s literary magazine. Michael also enjoys ultimate Frisbee, reading novels and watching Doctor Who.

Michael is an Orkin Scholar and received the Faculty Award for Scholarship, the “Rising Star” Math Department Award, and the Georgia Tech Math Department and University of Pennsylvania Book Awards. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Semifinalist and a National AP Scholar with Distinction.

At Pace Academy’s Senior Honors Day on May 18, Michael received the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cup Award, the Sydney Rushin Mathematics Prize and the Ralph Lee Newton Literary Award.

Michael is the son of Jennifer and Fred Christianson.

Cameron Winders – Salutatorian

A “Lifer,” Cameron Winders has attended Pace since Pre-First and is a leader in his class. He is a volunteer and weekly tutor at LaAmistad, a non-profit organization that assists immigrant Latino families and their children. He serves as a Peer Leader, one of 16Pace seniors selected to mentor small groups of ninth-grade students throughout the year.

Cameron is a student representative to Pace LEAD (Leading Education about Alcohol and Other Drugs), a peer tutor, a founding member of the Pace Academy Volleyball Club, vice president of the Croquet Club, captain of the varsity golf team and a member of the varsity basketball team. Cameron has played on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) during the summer since 2009 and served as an intern at LaAmistad in the summer of 2011.

He received the Georgia Certificate of Merit, the Dartmouth Book Prize for outstanding academic achievement, and he is a member of The Cum Laude, National Honor and Orkin Societies, and an AP Scholar. He was awarded the Mimi Ann Deas Award his sophomore year for scholarship, citizenship and class spirit.

At Pace Academy’s Senior Honors Day on May 18, Cameron received the Frank D. Kaley Award, Pace’s highest honor. Cameron plans to attend Duke University in the fall.

Cameron is the son of Judi and Dolph Winders.
