Pace Academy Presents “Xanadu”

Pace upper school students bring roller skating spoof to life.

The musical, a parody of the 1980 cult classic film starring Olivia Newton-John, follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, Ca., in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time—the first roller disco.

But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

“Xanadu” featured a talented cast of students, led by junior Megan McCurry as Kira and senior Colin Barham as Sonny.

Other cast members included seniors Kitty Cook, Patrick Corbett and Lauren Gold, juniors Ben Hirsch and Joey Capelouto, sophomores Cory Bush, Baiza Cherinet, Sam Downey and Alexandra McCorkle, and freshmen Alyssa Calloway, Peter Hurley, Rebecca Husk and Sam Nail. Dr. George Mengert directed the production, with music direction by Beth Barrow-Titus.
