Pace Alumnus Headed to Majors

Brandon Thomas, who graduated from Pace Academy, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.

Brandon Thomas, 2009  alumnus, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.

Thomas, a switch-hitting outfielder for Georgia Tech in his Junior year, was the 136th pick in the draft.

According to information provided by Georgia Tech, Thomas had a .360 batting average, which was a team high. In 2009, Thomas was drafted by by the Colorado Rockies in the 37th round but elected instead to instead enroll at Georgia Tech.

While at Pace, Thomas played under Head Coach Charlie Owens.

The scouting report on Tech's webiste descirbes Thomas as "a very talented and hard-working player with a strong arm and tremendous upside ... 5-tool player who is the Jackets best positional pro prospect in 2012."
