Pace Students Help East Cobb Titans Bring Home National Championship

Jared Datoc and Kameron Uter, and teammates on the 16U East Cobb Titans Baseball Club, defeated the 17U New Jersey Tigers in the finals of the AAU Underclass National Championship.

On Sunday, July 29, Pace Academy juniors, Jared Datoc and Kameron Uter, together with their teammates on the 16U East Cobb Titans Baseball Club, defeated the 17U New Jersey Tigers in the finals of the AAU Underclass National Championship at Jet Blue Stadium, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla. The Titans outscored the Tigers by a whopping 15 to 0 in three innings, triggering a mercy rule and garnering the prestigious national title.

“This is a huge win for the Titan program and this special group of committed, hard- working, young men,” said Titans head coach and former Knights assistant coach Chance Beam. “This is our seventh national championship title in our 10 years as an elite program, and further establishes the Titan brand as one of the top competitive travel team programs in the country." Right-handed pitcher Kameron Uter, whose 210-pound, 6’3” frame and blazing fast-ball caught the eyes of several major league scouts this summer, helped the Titans advance out of pool play with three critical relief appearances in the grueling Florida heat.

Jared Datoc had four appearances in relief, including a save and win in crucial win-or-go-home quarterfinal and semi-final games respectively. When not on the mound, Datoc played second base, and boosted the Titans offense by hitting .476 with 9 RBI over the six-day tournament.

What’s on tap next for the national champs? Datoc, identified by Perfect Game as a class of 2014 top prospect, is headed to San Diego, Ca., to represent the south region in the 2012 National Games on August 13 and 14, while Uter takes a break from baseball to hit the gridiron for the Knights.
