A North Atlanta High School student was arrested after a suspected drug overdose in a classroom last week according to a WSB TV report.

The news outlet reports that the student, who was observed with a syringe sticking out of his sock, told a responding EMS that he had taken "an opium with a syringe."

The student, who fell unconscious after returning from a bathroom at the Buckhead school, was charged with possession of heroin on a school campus. The incident is being investigated as a disciplinary matter according to Atlanta Public Schools.

Last fall, a North Atlanta High senior died of an accidental overdose.

Heroin is destroying thousands of lives on a yearly basis across the United States and the number has been on the rise in many places. How much of a problem has this become in Atlanta and Buckhead?

Heroin problem? More people die from infected stubbed toes than from heroin. Give me a break.

Octo Slash.... I don't know where you got your "statistics" but it is a shame if you are really that uneducated. I work with addicts every day and heroin IS an epidemic right now. I personally know 3 people who have died in the last 3 months from heroin and ZERO who died from an "infected stubbed toe." Our society is turning to heroin in unprecedented numbers and people like you are not helping the matter....
