Westminster's Junior High School MathCats Win Big

The Westminster math team brought home multiple trophies from the March 16th Dwight Love Math Tournament.


Westminster's Junior High School MathCats were all smiles as they posed with their trophies, following an impressive set of victories at this year's Dwight Love Math Tournament held at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross.

Westminster competed in both the Algebra Team competition and the Pre-Algebra competition with much success.  According to the Westminster website, "the Algebra Team placed First in the Small Schools Division with 8th grader Nicholas Roberts making the Top 10 performers list."

The winning spirit continued as the Westminster Pre-Algebra Team also took home the first place trophy from the Small Schools division.  Leo Zhang was celebrated as the top performer among more than 80 students who competed in this pre-algebra category, reports Westminster.

Overall, Westminster students who competed in the Algebra competition ranked in the top third out of 100 students region-wide.  In addition, the Westminster students in the pre-algebra competition ranked in the top half of the 80-student competition.

According to the Greater Atlanta Christian School, the Dwight Love tournament is, "held in honor of Dr. Love who passed away in 2001, for the contributions he has made to mathematics education and competition."
