Westminster Student Second in National Geographic Bee

Seventh grader wins $15,000 scholarship

Westminster seventh grader Nilai Sarda won a $15,000 college scholarship with a second-place finish in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C., this week, according to the school.

In the finals, Nilai competed against Tine Valenic from Colleyville, Texas. They were asked the same five questions, with the one with the most correct answers winning.

After three correct answers, Nilai missed the following question; Identify the South American country where the volcano Tungurahua is. He incorrectly guessed Peru, while Tine won the competition with the correct answer of “Ecuador."

 "Jeopardy's" Alex Trebek was the host of the event. The Top 10 finalist competition will be aired on June 14.
