girls lacrosse team defeated Episcopal High of Houston, Texas, 14-11 last weekend to win the Wilcats' own Dogwood Classic.
The victory over a team with a No. 7 preseason ranking in the South by Lacrosse magazine gave Westminster its eighth Dogwood title in the last 12 years, according to the school.
Caroline Heys scored four goals and two assists, while junior Anna Silverstein had a hat trick of her own to lead the Cats offensively. Senior Katie Rush registered a career-best 13 saves in the cage. Heys was named Co-MVP of the tournament while Rush was named to the All-Tournament team.
The win gives Westminster a 10-0 record after defeating Ravenwood, Tenn. 14-6 in their tournament opener and J. L. Mann 17-2 in the semifinals. Heys had seven goals and three assists in the Ravenwood game, and finished the two-day tournament with 17 goals and six assists. Eve Knapp scored 11 goals and compiled three assists. Molly Kaplan and Maggie Walker stood out on defense.
Westminster will play Lovett on April 4.
