Atlanta Marathoners to Fill the Streets on Sunday

Part of the 26.2-mile race runs through Buckhead.

The Atlanta Marathon, organized by the Atlanta Track Club, will start at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. The race is an urban marathon that takes participants on a tour through the largest city in the Southeast.

With a challenging city course, festive Adopt a Marathon Mile cheer zones and a 6 1/2 hour course limit, this event is the perfect opportunity for both first-timers and seasoned runners looking to achieve their marathon goals.

The Atlanta Marathon course starts and finishes at Atlantic Station near Midtown Atlanta. The 26.2-mile course gives participants a tour of Atlanta, running past well known Atlanta sites and neighborhoods including:

  • Centennial Olympic Park,
  • Georgia Aquarium,
  • Turner Field,
  • Grant Park,
  • Inman Park,
  • Virginia-Highland,
  • Oakland Cemetery,
  • Old Fourth Ward,
  • Piedmont Park,
  • Morningside and,
  • Buckhead.

 

Course Information for Participants

Aid stations and water/POWERADE will be located approximately every 1 1/2 miles along the course. Aid stations will also have portable toilets as well as first aid items.

Fuel stations will be located near miles eight and 20 on the course.

Digital clocks will be located every mile along the course to provide elapsed time.

The course time limit is 6 1/2 hours (approximately 15 minute per mile pace).

Please be aware that the course is not closed to traffic. Runners' lane are marked by traffic cones, and runners will need to stay on the right side of the road at all time.

For the safety of all Atlanta Marathon participants, no pets or wheeled conveyances including bikes, strollers, baby joggers or in-line skates are permitted on the course.  As it’s not a closed course, and so you can hear directions given by race officials, please do not wear headphones during the race.

10-Mile Event

The Atlanta Marathon 10 Mile event starts near Piedmont Park and finishes at Atlantic Station; start time 7:15 a.m.

The 10 Mile course has a 2 ½ hour time limit (15 minute per mile pace).  The course will open to traffic once participants doing a 15 minute mile pace have passed, and anyone still on the course will be responsible for his or her own safety and asked to move to the sidewalk.

All Atlanta Marathon 10 Mile participants will receive a long-sleeve performance shirt and a finisher's medal.

Water will be located in the start area, and stations with water and POWERade will be located along the course approximately every mile and a half.

Event Parking

Plenty of parking will be available on race day in the Atlantic Station parking garage. The fee is $5 payable on entrance into the deck; participants will receive a voucher to present upon exit. The deck will be staffed beginning at 5 a.m. on event day.

Please plan on arriving at least one hour prior to the start to allow plenty of time to park, check in your gear and get to the start line.
