Grand reopening for Bitsy Grant

Ribbon cutting for renovated tennis jewel also marks start of American Tennis Association tournament

The celebrated its reopening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

WSB-TV Anchor Monica Pearson served as the host. Speeches were given by Greg Mauldin, president of the Friends of Bitsy Grant Tennis Center; Dr. Franklyn Scott, president of the American Tennis Assocation; and Cathy Hampton, city attorney for Atlanta, who spoke on behalf of Mayor Kasim Reed. 

Honorable attendees included former Atlanta Mayors Andrew Young and Sam Massell. Young and Massell, president of the Buckhead Coalition, helped cut the ribbon at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The opening of the center also marked the beginning of the 94th national championships of the American Tennis Association. The tournament, with 1,000 players, is being held at tennis centers across Atlanta this week.
