Legendary Lovett Coach to Retire

Wrestling mentor Jim Glasser ends legendary career

Longtime Lovett wrestling coach Jim Glasser will retire after this wrestling season, the school announced.

Glasser's Lions recently won the 6-AA area championship and are wrestling in the state sectionals this weekend. His final match will be state duals Feb. 25-26.

In 36 seasons at Lovett, Glasser's teams won 13 state championships in traditional and or duals competition.  He's had 26 second or third place finishes at either the state tradiontal and or state duals.

He's coached two All-Americans, Andrew Aiken in 1993 and Daniel Domanico in 2009, and 54 individual weight-class state champions. 

Heading into the state dual tournament, he's had 749 career dual match wins, including a 19-3 record this season. His has an overall record of 749-46-2 for a .941 winning percentage, ranking fourth all-time nationally for high-school dual match wins. He's had 16 undefeated dual-match seasons, including eight in a row from 1977-85, when he had 91 straight wins. He's had 11 seasons with 30 or more dual-match wins.

During his Lovett career, he's also coached football, track and  field and boys' tennis. He won the 1983 state championship as the girls' track and field coach and six consecutive boys tennis state championships from 1988-93. He's also served as an assistant coach in various sports.
