Lovett, Westminster Split Football Season Openers

We're looking for parents, players or fans to write about and take both pictures and video of their favorite Buckhead area sports teams! And don't forget to brag about the cheerleaders, too!

The Lovett Lions and Westminster Wildcats produced different home results Friday night in the 2013 football season openers for both Buckhead schools.

Lovett scored with just over two minutes remaining to turn back Woodward Academy 21-14 at Martin E. Kilpatrick Stadium. The Lions, 1-0, got the winning score on a short pass from Willie Candler to Jack McGranahan, while standout running back Grant Haley scored Lovett’s other two touchdowns on the evening.

Next Friday, Lovett plays at Blessed Trinity, which blanked Westminster 18-0 at Alfred E. Thompson Stadium on Friday. It marked the third straight win for the Titans over the Wildcats, who trailed 6-0 at the break.
