Lovett Wrestlers Win 6-AA Area Championship

North Atlanta at 5-AAA meet qualify three for sectionals

Lovett captured the 6-AA area championship Saturday, with five Lions taking individual titles.

Area champions for the team are Kyler Allen (103 pounds), Rick Niehaus (112), Corey Erdoes (171), Patrick Emerson (189) and Hunter Rich (285), according to the school's Web site.

Lovett took the championship in the final match of the day, when Rich took a 4-2 overtime victory to give the Lions a one-point win over second-place Greater Atlanta Christian. Blessed Trinity finished third and Buford fourth.

Other wrestlers qualifying for the AA sectionals in Sonoraville  next weekend were Jesse Webb, Westminster, third in 112 pounds;  Jonathan Kopelman, Lovett, and Jackson Egan, Westminster, second and  fourth in 119 pounds; Cooper Ward, Lovett, and Austin Williams, Westminster, third and fourth at 125; Palani Eswaran, Westminster, third at 130; Jack Young, Lovett, fourth at 135; Andrew Johnson, Lovett, fourth at 140; Sam Bondurant, Westminster, and Connor Johnson, Lovett, first and second at 145; Davis Cowles, Lovett, third, 152; Jack Houk, Westminster, and Forrest Bell, Lovett, third and fourth, 160; Joe Powers, Westminster, third,  171; Julian Houk, Westminster, second, 189; Daniel Rue, Lovett, and Matt Tyler, Westminster, second and fourth, 215.

North Atlantan Takes Title: North Atlanta's Nick Middlebrooks took first place in the 189 pound competition at the 5-AAA area tournament last weekend.

Other Warriors qualifying for next weekend's sectionals at Woodward were Andrew Fair, third, 171 pounds, and Edward Dickey, fourth, 215, according to the school's Web site.
