N. Atlanta Hopes for Thursday Win

Warriors take on crosstown rival Jackson at Grady

will play early this week, battling crosstown rival Jackson Thursday night. The kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. at Grady Stadium.

The Warriors will seek to go 2-0 after a 3-0 win over South Atlanta to open the season. Like South Atlanta, Jackson (0-1) is in Region 6-AA, while North Atlanta is in 5-AAA.

In the defensive battle against South Atlanta last week, North Atlanta kicker Matt Headley, playing his first football game, gave the Warriors all of the points they needed.

Headley booted a 38-yard field goal in the second quarter, and the Warriors' fierce defense made it stand up in a 3-0 win over cross-city rival South Atlanta.

Coach Stanley Pritchett, in his first game at North Atlanta, said "top players were the entire defense, led by Marcus Lee with 13 tackles and four sacks and Amon-Ray Clay with 10 tackles and an interception." Justin Taylor led the Warriors in rushing with 88 yards on 29 carries in the nonregion game. The old-fashioned defensive struggle was played in near 100-degree heat. Here is an APS photo gallery of the game.
