Turner, Smoltz Head 2014 Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Class

Heisman trophy winner George Rogers and Olympic champion sprinter Antonio McKay also among the class of six to be inducted Friday night in Buckhead.

The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 10th class Friday night during a ceremony at the Buckhead Theatre.

Ted Turner, John Smoltz and George Rogers head the class of five men and one woman who will join those previously inducted in the hall. Joining them will be Antonio McKay, Corky Kell and Cindy Brogdon.

Friday’s festivities will include a reception, silent auction, a parade of past inductees, along with the awards and induction ceremony. Tickets may be purchased here.

Here’s a look at the inductees:

• Ted Turner – Former owner of the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Hawks. Turner created the Goodwill Games and won the 1997 America’s Cup Sailing Race.

• John Smoltz – Best known for his prolific career of more than two decades with the Atlanta Braves, Smoltz garnered eight All-Star selections and received the Cy Young Award in 1996.

• George Rogers – Duluth High School graduate who won the 1980 Heisman trophy as a running back for the University of South Carolina. Rogers was a member of the Washington Redskins Super Bowl XXII Champion team in 1988.

• Antonio McKay – Atlanta native who specialized in the 400 meters in track and was a three-time All-American at Georgia Tech. McKay won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics.

• Corky Kell – Longtime athletic figure at Wheeler High School who coached football and girls’ basketball. He later served as the Cobb County School District’s athletic director. Kell High School is named after him, as is the high school football classic he started.

• Cindy Brogdon – Led Greater Atlanta Christian to three Georgia state Women’s basketball championships (1972, 1974, & 1975) and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
