Peachtree Road Race brings Buckhead/Midtown Street Closures

An Atlanta holiday tradition means Buckhead and Midtown area road closures are coming this week.

The 2013 AJC Peachtree Road Race is ready for its annual Fourth of July running Thursday as again 60,000 or so are ready to ramble down Peachtree Street and then pour into Piedmont Park during the world’s largest 10K running event.

The event begins in Buckhead near Phipps Plaza and ends near Charles Allen Drive on 10th Street. Streets around the start area will close at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday. They will include:

•Around Lenox Road from Peachtree Road to Lenox Road

•Lenox Road from Peachtree Road to Ferncliff Road

•Buckhead Loop from Peachtree Road to GA 400

•Phipps Boulevard from Buckhead Loop to Wieuca Road

•Wieuca Road from Old Ivy Road to Roxboro Road

•Roxboro Road from Kingsboro Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road

•Pritchard Road from Roxboro Road to Oak Valley Road

•Lakeside Road from Pritchard Road to Kingsboro Road

•Kingsboro Road from Roxboro Road to Lenox Road

•Oak Valley Road from Peachtree Road to E. Paces Ferry Road

The entire racecourse, which runs south on Peachtree until turning east on 10th St., in Midtown, will be closed by 6:30 a.m. on race day and no private vehicles will be permitted on it. It will reopen on a rolling basis as the race progresses.

In Midtown, 10th Street from Charles Allen to Monroe Drive will be closed starting on Tuesday, July 2 at noon until Thursday, July 4 at 3 p.m.

Also Monroe Dr. will close between Virginia Avenue and Kanuga Street at 7 a.m. on Thursday and will remain closed until around noon.

And Peachtree Place will be closed from Peachtree St. to West Peachtree Street at 8 a.m. on Thursday until noon.
