UPDATE: Students, Staff to 'Shelter in Place' if Still at an Atlanta Public School

If your child is already on a bus, that bus will still drop them off.

UPDATE 10 P.M.: Students and staff still stuck at Atlanta Public Schools aren't going anywhere tonight.

The Atlanta Public Schools System has decided to have any student or staff member still at one of its schools "shelter in place" – that is, stay at the school for the rest of the night.

If your child already is on a bus, expect them to get home... eventually.

One APS mother called Patch editor Bob Pepalis at 9 tonight and said her daughter still wasn't home. And at 10 p.m., after 6.5 hours on the bus, she still had no idea when her daughter would get home, or if she would have to go pick her up at a school that is miles away from her home.

Making it even more difficult for her was that side roads off Old Atlanta National have not been treated, so she isn't sure she can get to another location.

UPDATE: 3 P.M.:
Road conditions are likely to still be dangerous , prompting Atlanta Public Schools to keep schools closed on Wednesday.

Statement from Atlanta Public Schools:

Due to inclement weather conditions, and for the safety of our students and employees, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014.

All scheduled APS events, including extra-curricular activities, will be rescheduled. Please continue to check the district’s website, social media channels and local media outlets for updates.
