The Painted Pin Permit Appeal Set for Thursday

Justin Amick wants to open a boutique bowling alley that merchants nearby oppose because of the lack of parking and that they feel it is a bar and restaurant.

An entrepreneur and a group of Miami Circle business owners have a different opinion on whether the man is developing a family entertainment complext or a restaurant with bar.

Justin Amick plans to open a "boutique bowling alley" on Miami Circle, Atlanta Eater reports, what he's calling The Painted Pin, a 23,000-square-foot space with 20 lanes, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard, and ping pong.

But this family entertainment center needs far fewer parking spaces than a restaurant would be required to provide by the city of Atlanta. That's one of the reasons the Miami Circle Merchants Association opposes it.

They've even created a website to show their disapproval.

"Their plans shows only 39 dedicated parking spaces but they told us their business plan is to serve 400-600 per night," the website states.

The merchants describe Miami Circle Market Center as "a design related street with art galleries, antique dealers and interior design showrooms."

Brian Daughdrill has filed an appeal of a decision by an administrative officer of the Office of Planning that gave the project a special administrative permit. That appeal will be held Thursday at noon in council chambers by the City of Atlanta Board of Zoning Adjustment.
