Like Tennis? Fetch Balls at the BB&T Atlanta Open

Sports fans are invited to sign up for coveted ball persons positions.

If you love tennis and you're quick, you might earn a chance at courtside seats at the upcoming BB&T Atlanta Open -- by being a ball person. Most likely, you won't be actually sitting a lot, but you'll still be in the thick of the tennis action. The BB&T Atlanta Open will host tryouts for ball persons Monday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 22, at Buckhead's Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA. Ball persons must be at least 13 years old by July 20, 2013, in order to try out. Proof of age is required. All applicants must be able to attend one of the tryouts to be considered. If selected, ball persons must be available for the entire tournament and qualifying, July 20-28, at Atlantic Station. The ball persons primary job will be retrieving balls, but …

North Atlanta's Warriors Headed to State Baseball Playoffs

The North Atlanta High baseball team is headed to state playoffs as No. 2 in the region.

As the school year winds down to a close, some North Atlanta High seniors are hoping to celebrate another momentous occasion in addition to their graduation. The North Atlanta High Warriors baseball team, No. 2 in 6-AAAAA region, heads to the Georgia High School Association Championship Playoffs on Friday against Kell High School after finishing the season at 18-5. “It is a wonderful testament to their perseverance and dedication to playing baseball,” said Jeff Johnson, whose son, junior Will Johnson, has been on the varsity team since his freshmen year. The Warriors finished second in the region after Dunwoody High and will host Kell on its home turf, fondly called “The Rock.” Members of the Warriors baseball community say the team’s …

Big Peach Stores to Hold Mile of Silence Tuesday at 7 A.M.

The event is a way to remember and support those who were killed or injured in The Boston Marathon explosions on Monday.

A locally owned chain of retail stores serving Atlanta's runners and walkers is holding a Mile of Silence event to remember the victims of Monday's Boston Marathon bomb explosions that left at least three people dead and dozens of others injured. The event, a mile-long moment of silence, will be held at 7 a.m. each of the seven Big Peach Running Co.'s locations, including the Midtown location at 800 Peachtree St. NE. and the Brookhaven location in Town Brookhaven at 705 Town Blvd., Suite 340. "Runners, walkers, people who just want to feel the love, but don't want to run or walk, are all welcome," said Karen Kaye, BGPC's communications director, told Patch. North Atlanta High Places High in Atlanta Track Classic Relays

The Atlanta Track Classic is a citywide track meet bringing together the best track athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools.

The finals of the 2013 Atlanta Track Classic were held on April 1, and North Atlanta High impressed everyone by placing well in the Men's 4x400m relay.  According to reporting by TalkUp APS, "the Atlanta Track Classic is a citywide track meet bringing together the best track athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools."  The Men's Team Trophy went to Mays High School, who was followed by Carver High and Grady High.  The Women's Team Trophy was reserved for Grady High School, who were followed by Jackson High and Douglass High.
