High school students, Rotarians and members of local churches became construction workers for a few weekends.
Atlanta International high school students, along with local Rotarians and church members, helped build two of three Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia homes. This past weekend the three families got help from those same volunteers in a dedication ceremony for their homes. The Habitat organization held a Dedication Ceremony at the Villages of Park Creek neighborhood on the border of Cherokee County and Fulton County. More than 50 family members, sponsors, community members, and Habitat staff and board members attended the heart-warming ceremony, according to Habitat's Kristyn Johnson. The school's production of 'Beauty and the Beast' won a Shuler Hensley Award.
The Atlanta International School's production of "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" resulted in a Best Supporting Actor award for Alec Nash, who played Cogsworth in the production. Supported by the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation and ArtsBridge, the Shuler Hensley awards are designed to promote Georgia high school musical theater programs. "The Shuler Hensley awards ceremony was full of celebration for us, with seniors Josh Cohen and Giselle Fernandez selected to perform in the Shuler Ensemble," said Rob Warren, the school's head of theatre. From Patch Reports "Passport to the United States" will be the theme of Atlanta International School's annual black-tie gala, Saturday, April 21, on the school's campus. The evening will invite guests on a domestic trip back in time to the Roaring '20s, with décor and food that reflect a Jazz Age flair. Along with live music spanning the years, dancing and entertainment, the event will include a silent and live auction, according to a news release from the school. All proceeds from the benefit contribute toward financial aid scholarships, technology enhancements and preservation of the historic campus buildings. Eagles head to second round against Blessed Trinity
Atlanta International's volleyball team battles Blessed Trinity in the second round of the A/AA state playoffs. The Eagles, 15-7 for the year, play Blessed Trinity at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Eagles last week beat Savannah Christian Prep three games to two to advance to the "sweet 16" of the tournament, according to a news release from the school. After falling behind two games to one in the first round, the Eagles came back to defeat Savannah Christian 25-17 and 15-8 in the final two games. In the contest, Anna Benkiser hit a 480 average; Alice Morrison contributed 28 kills in 74 attempts; Helen Recaborde had 54 assists and 10 digs; and Morrison and Benkiser combined for 14 blocks. Camp Stardust a hit at Atlanta International School
The Atlanta International School hosted Camp Stardust for the fifth year in a row last week. The camp, sponsored by the Atlanta Children's Theatre Co., also took place at The Lovett School. The campers at AIS worked on scenes from Disney's "Cinderella Kids." Here is a look at their final practice.

From Patch Staff Reports Atlanta International School's 73-member Class of 2011 will graduate Friday morning. The commencement ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Road, with a reception to follow. Speakers will include seniors Amy O'Halloran, Arsalan Akhavan, Jonathan Olens and Nicole Dancz, according to the school's website. The school's valedictorian is Neema Ebrahim-Zadeh of Marietta, the son of Shideh and Mehron Ebrahim-Zadeh. He will attend Stanford University. The salutatorian is Sam Jactel of Brookhaven, the son of Ann and Bruno Jactel. He will attend Duke University.
