Sen. Hill: More Cooperation with Governments in Place Needed

Sen. Hunter Hill doesn't think the creation of a new county is the best way to solve problems many Buckhead residents say they face.

Sen. Hunter Hill told the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods on Thursday that residents should work better with governments in place, not create a new county. Hill said citizens can find a "better way" to work with Fulton County and other government in place, according to a report from the Buckhead Reporter. Thursday's meeting was Hill's first official visit with citizens as Senator-elect. In the recent November election, Hill defeated four-term incumbent Democrat Doug Stoner. He pointed out that Fulton County is 95 percent municipalized and citizens "can mandate Fulton County only perform those functions it needs to perform," according to the Reporter report. Beyond the horrendous property taxes, I think Buckhead would be well advised to have a separate county. Maybe then we could get better police protection, garbage service, reduce taxes, better schools, more community involvement. And Sam Massel? Sam Massell's uncle's dentist's wife's hairdresser would be better than the bloated money wasting corrupt city government we usually get....   more ›
