Restoration Hardware Signs Lease for ESPN Zone Space

Change marks strategy shift.

Restoration Hardware will build a flagship store in the former ESPN Zone site at 3030 Peachtree Road. The lease agreement underscores the shift in vision that Atlanta businessman Peter Blum has for the property, which had been a core part of Buckhead's party district image of the late 1990s and early 2000s. It explains why he opted not to renew the lease with the Cheesecake Factory restaurant chain at 3024 Peachtree Road, which sought another longterm agreement. “Restoration Hardware plans to build an iconic flagship store at 3030 Peachtree Road across the street from Oliver McMillan’s Buckhead Atlanta," Blum, who is managing partner of 3024 Peachtree LLP and 3030 Peachtree LLP, said in a statement. "Given the new development, we wanted …

Buckhead CID Looking to Expand Into West Village

The Buckhead Theatre has been reserved by the CID for 5:30 p.m. on June 20 for a question and answer session related to the acquisition.

The Buckhead Community Improvement District is looking to expand into and make infrastructure improvements to the SPI 9 district, which includes a large portion of West Village and a second section including part of Piedmont Road. The CID voted at their most recent meeting to approve a $20,000 contract to Lowe Engineers to conduct an assessment of West/Buckhead Village. The assessment will evaluate existing conditions to provide recommendations for short and long term improvements, as well as the cost of each. The West Village area in question is between Irby Avenue and East Adrews Drive and to the west of Roswell Road. The SPI 9 zoning, adopted by Atlanta City Council on October 4, 2010, sets the stage for a more walkable, urban community…

The project could cost upwards of $10 million but would bring relief to tangled intersection of Peachtree, Roswell and Paces Ferry.

The Buckhead Community Improvement district is taking another look at improving the tangled and often discussed intersection of Peachtree, Roswell and Paces Ferry. Public input on any potential fixes will be delayed, but CID members say it won’t be long before they have proposals ready to review, according to the Buckhead Reporter. Buckhead CID Executive Director Jim Durrett said the CID board postponed the scheduled May 17 public meeting while it waits for information from a consultant. The CID has worked with consultant Kimley-Horn and Associates on the project and recently hired Parsons Brinckerhoff to develop a transportation model for the entire CID area. Brian McHugh, director of transportation and planning for the CID, said the …

Shook: Reduced Bar Hours Mean Less Crime

Cites murders during 'Buckhead Village Nightmare Years'

Buckhead City Councilman Howard Shook, who represents District 7, has e-mailed Buckhead Patch a response to a reader named Dustin's comments regarding a proposal to extend bar closing hours in Atlanta. Dustin said that Shook's views that longer bar hours would increase crime go against economic principles found in the "Freakonomics" books and Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point." Here is the link to Dustin's comments. They can also be found in the Comments section. Here is Shook's reponse: "As a big fan of the "Freakonomics" books, I'm happy to clarify that my comments about the connection between late-night bar hours and crime reflect national and local data revealing an obvious cause-and-effect, as those of us who lived through the "…
