Bank Teller Swindles $10K from 90-Year-Old Buckhead Woman

The bank teller's personal account records show more than $50,000 cash had been deposited recently.

Atlanta Police arrested a bank teller after a 90-year-old Buckhead woman suspected he was stealing money from her account. On May 16, Mary Massey made an outcry that a Wells Fargo bank employee may have been stealing money from her account. According to police, Atlanta Police Major Fraud Unit investigators "jumped on it quickly" and contacted the bank to gather evidence. The investigation revealed that bank teller Daniel Araujo befriended Massey and manipulated her into signing cash withdrawal slips and stole a total of $10,600 from her account. Massey said she thought Araujo was being helpful by always walking her in and out of the bank. She said he was always sure to have her sign a slip when she was there, which was later revealed to be…

Student rape victim said the suspect sent her texts, and she fears she is now pregnant, according to the police report.

A female North Atlanta High student reported being raped by a male suspect in the girls' restroom during lunch in early May. According to a report from the Atlanta Police Department, the girl said the male student approached her during lunch in the cafeteria and said he wanted to "show her something." He then escorted her to the girls' restroom, according to the report. Once inside, the suspect put on a condom, the female student reported that the suspect then raped her. During the incident, the female student asked the suspect to stop, and he told her not to tell anyone, according to the police report. Thieves Make Off with $30K in Jewelry from Phipps Plaza

Atlanta Police are investigating the jewelry heist.

Atlanta Police are investigating a Wednesday morning theft at Belk at Phipps Plaza where two men made off with $30,000 in jewelry. According to reports, the two men entered the department store. After one man smashed the glass jewelry case with a hammer, the other lifted a tray of diamond earrings, valued at approximately $30,000. The men were last seen in a parking deck adjacent to Phipps Plaza. Police responded to the call about the heist around 11:10 a.m., according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to report to Crime Stoppers (404) 577-8477, where they may remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a $2,000 reward.

APD Investigate Link Between Recent Buckhead Armed Robberies

One man was forced into his trunk and not released until the police arrived.

Atlanta Police are investigating to see if recent carjackings and armed robberies over a 48-hour span may be connected. One of the carjacking victims, who are Georgia Tech students, told WSB that the suspects seemed "pretty coordinated" and confronted them with a gun as soon as he opened his car door. They took the students' wallets, cell phones and car keys, WSB reports. The victim was being dropped off by a friend at his Pharr Road apartment on Friday night. He said he thinks the suspects were waiting in their cars across the street and watching them. He said he hopes to make a difference in the young man's life.

People often wonder what they'd do if they came face to face with a thief who wanted to take something of theirs. Would they hand it over? Would they chase them down? Jim Durrett, 56-year-old executive director of the Buckhead Community Improvement District and an avid cyclist, found out on Saturday just before noon while waiting for his wife at the Lindbergh MARTA station in Buckhead.
