Tuesday's Election Day is quickly approaching. Here's what you need to know locally: The presidential election features the Democratic incumbent, President Barack Obama, against the GOP nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney. Gov. Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party is the only other candidate currently on the Georgia ballot. While the TSPLOST is at the forefront in the minds of most voters today, there are still several local contested races that deserve attention here in Buckhead. Northside Neighbor recently posted an informative wrap-up of the races to look out for. If you are still unsure of how to place your vote, you'll find links to each candidates websites or other articles to be better informed. Candidate bings in $73,627 for first quarter of year
Josh Belinfante raised $73,627.92 in this year's first quarter to take the lead among candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the State Senate District 6 seat. Belinfante had raised $202,985 for his campaign through March 31, according to the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission website. He has more than 500 supporters, according to a news release from his campaign. Candidate Hunter Hill, the leading fund-raiser through the last quarter of 2011, raised $52,260 for the first quarter of 2012, bringing his total contributions to $196,765, according to his campaign report filed with the campaign finance commission. Former Army officer, Westminster athlete joins field seeking Republican nomination
Smyrna businessman Hunter Hill Tuesday announced his campaign for the Georgia Senate's 6th District, according to a news release. Hill, a Westminster Schools alum and a former Army captain who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, joins Josh Belinfante and Beth Beskin as candidates in the 2012 Republican primary. Republican to run against District 6 Democratic incumbent Doug Stoner
As expected, Sandy Springs attorney Josh Belinfante has announced his candidacy for State Senate District 6, which now includes Buckhead. Belinfante is running for the seat held by incumbent Sen. Doug Stoner of Cobb County. The district, which also includes Sandy Springs, Smyrna and Vinings, was recently redrawn in the General Assembly's special redistricting session. Buckhead residents would be included in referendum
Buckhead city council member Yolanda Adrean is among sponsors of legislation that would allow a referendum on the sales of liquor, wine and beer on Sundays within Atlanta. "I am supporting the right for citizens to vote to decide whether or not we have Sunday alcohol sales," Adrean said in an e-mail to Buckhead Patch. "Many Georgia municipalities have passed similar resolutions to let citizens decide, including Sandy Springs, Alpharetta and Dunwoody. Today 37 states permit sale of alcohol on Sundays."
