St. Regis, Intercontinental and Ritz-Carlton among Atlanta lodgings receiving prestigious ranking

From Patch Reports The InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead and the St. Regis received AAA Five Diamond rankings from the American Automobile Association. According to an Atlanta Business Chronicle article, the three will receive the honor at a Buckhead ceremony Tuesday along with several other Atlanta hotels receiving the award. Buckhead hotels that received four-diamond rankings were the J.W. Marriott Buckhead, the Westin Buckhead and the W Atlanta Buckhead. Four diamond restaarants in Buckhead are Grill Bacchanalia, Aria, Paces 88 in the St. Regis, La Grotta Ristorante Italiano and Restaurant Eugene

From Patch Staff A foreclosure notice has been issued for the building housing the W Atlanta Hotel in Buckhead, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The W Atlanta property, a former Crowne Plaza, was renovated into the Starwood boutique brand in 2008, the AJC said. Mit Shah, chief executive officer of Atlanta-based Noble Investment Group, which owns the W property, told the newspaper that the company is working with Prudential, the lender, to restructure the almost $62 million loan that matures in November. The foreclosure notice was first advertised in July, the newspaper reported.

Art Smith, Oprah Winfrey's former chef, to open Southern-style restaurant in Buckhead
Oprah Winfrey's former personal chef is coming to Buckhead with a new restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel. The newest entry in Buckhead's increasingly sophisticated and varied eating scene will be Art Smith's Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, the noted chef's first venture into the Southeast. The opening is scheduled for Sept. 26, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. As the name implies, bourbon sippers will rejoice with what a press release calls "a well-cultivated selection of American bourbon distillers, focusing on small-batch producers and featuring select bourbons only available at Bourbon Bar through exclusive agreements." From Patch Staff Reports A Parisian-themed cabaret Aug. 19 at the Buckhead Theatre will benefit Kate's Club, an Atlanta nonprofit that gives grief support to children and teens who have lost a family member. A VIP reception will begin at 7 p.m., with the main event running from 8 p.m. to midnight, according to a news release. Along with gourmet hors d'oeuvres and Absolut cocktails, the group's eighth-annual fundraiser will include silent auction items, mystery boxes and live music from U.S. Beat.
