Surprise! Even More Apartments Coming to Buckhead

Yes, more apartments coming to Buckhead.

How many times have you seen that headline in the last five months? Well, get used to it. Even more apartments are coming to Buckhead. COE Architecture International, an architecture firm based in Los Angeles, just finished its design plan to convert the aging nine-story office building at 550 Pharr Road into an apartment complex. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the building was developed in the 1970s and was foreclosed upon in October for $7 million. Lyon Communities Development, based in Newport Beach, CA,  is redeveloping the office building and named COE as its design firm. COE is best known for its renovation of Hollywood Palladium nightclub on Sunset Boulevard and has also worked on various high-profile residential …

Buckhead Leading the Way in Most Expensive Home Sales

A majority of Atlanta's most expensive homes and condos sold so far in 2012 are right here in Buckhead.

Seven of the top 10 most expensive homes/condos sold in Atlanta for the first half of 2012 are in Buckhead, according to a recent report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The second highest-priced home sold so far this year (for a cool $5.9 million) is located at 1215 Mount Paran Road in Buckhead. The top spot, however, belongs to 3410 Ridgewood Drive ($6 million) in Dekalb County. While a Buckhead home may not have come in at number one on the list, homes/condos here do comprise six other spots in the top ten. The report shows that, while the Atlanta housing market remains tough, high priced homes are still changing hands — the majority of which are right here in Buckhead. Rezoning Progresses for Colonial Homes Parcel

Pope and Land to redevelop apartment site

Pope and Land is on course to receive higher-density rezoning to redevelop a section of the Colonial Homes Apartments. NPU-C at its meeting Tuesday night split 5-5 on a motion to deny recommendation of the rezoning from RG3 to MR4, according to the NPU’s minutes. The motion to deny was because of the lack of a specific site plan, the minutes said. The city of Atlanta has previously rejected the rezoning for the parcel at 240 Colonial Homes Drive, but a Fulton Superior Court judge subsequently ruled in favor of Pope and Land. The judge's actioin which will require the city to grant the rezoning. “The existing zoning has already been found unconstitutional, so the city has to rezone it,” said Carl Westmoreland, the attorney representing Pope…

A Tale of Two Developments

NPU-B gives nod to Longleaf Drive condos, shoots down "big box" plan in Lindbergh corridor

With the economy recovering, signs of development are popping up in Buckhead like spring flowers. On Pinecrest in North Buckhead, two large homes are rising, across the street from each other. JLB Pharr Road's luxury apartments at 235 Pharr Road also advances upward, near where OliverMcMillan will soon begin work on Buckhead Atlanta, formerly the streets of Buckhead. Just down the road at the Paces Apartments site on East Andrews, Camden Property Trust is also to start work on luxury aparments. The development moves gained traction Tuesday night when NPU-B recommended approval for developer Winston Smith's plan to build townhomes on the corner of Longleaf Drive and Phipps Boulevard. BluePointe Site: What Should Go Here?

Give your comments on what type of business should take over this prime Peachtree Road space.

The closure of BluePointe last year left empty a rectangular, turquoise-colored structure on Peachtree Road. The vacant property is near another high-profile empty place, the old Filene's location. Another restuarant might be a good fit for the distinctive place on Peachtree Road. Clearer material would allow diners to look out and walkers to look in. That would especially make for urban excitement when the Buckhead Boulevard project is complete.  Thinking back to the old days of TV, when the "Today Show" and "American Bandstand" used to show the street traffic outside their studio windows, maybe a Buckhead-based TV show could set up there. Are you listening CNN? Let us know in Comments your ideas for the site.
