Filene's in Buckhead to Close Doors
Syms Corp., discount retailer's parent, declares bankruptcy
Filene's Basement, which made the running of the brides a Buckhead springtrime ritual, will close, according to news reports. The running of the brides event brought hundreds of brides to Buckhead last March to hunt for bargain wedding gowns. Syms Corp., owner of the famed Boston-based retailer, declared bankruptcy Wednesday in the face of strong competition in the weak economy. The bankruptcy petitions were filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, according to a Syms news release. The news release said store liquidation is expected to last through about the end of January 2012.
