Buckhead Crime Blotter: July 1 - 7

Here is a look at Zone 2 police activity from the first week in July.

The following police reports were filed Juy 1 - 7 by Zone 2 of the Atlanta Police Department and submitted to Buckhead Patch. All information is presumed to be accurate Auto-theft 7/3/12 While on routine patrol at 12:50 p.m., police observed two males pushing scooters down Huff Road NE. Upon stopping and speaking with one of the males, an officer observed the ignition key not in the scooter. The other male in question was seen placing the scooter to the ground and stepping into the wood line in an attempt to separate himself from the other scooter. Upon attempting to speak with that male, he fled the scene by jumping over a fence.  One of the males in question was later apprehended after a brief foot chase. Both officers received minor …

Police Report Significant Burglary, Larceny Arrests

Police have arrested a suspect reportedly responsible for recent burglaries at Frank Ski's restaurant, as well as another suspect tracked back to numerous vehicle larcenies in the area.

Not only is violent crime down in Buckhead, but Atlanta police made several significant arrests recently that have had an impact on both vehicle larcenies and commercial burglaries, according to Zone 2 Commander Maj. Van Hobbs at Tuesday’s meeting of Neighborhood Planning Unit - B.  At the meeting, which was held at Cathedral of Christ the King, Hobbs said police recently caught a suspect that shoplifted and then attempted to break into a car as well. As it turns out, the suspect has an extensive criminal history including robbery, burglary, larceny and auto theft. The suspect may be responsible for many car break-ins in the area. “We tracked him back to break ins in Zone 5,” Hobbs said. “The area he was in has not had another car break-in…

Hair Stylist Arrested on Charges of Firing Shots in Buckhead Salon

Suspect reportedly turns himself in to police

From Patch Reports The hair stylist wanted for allegedly firing shots in celebrity Derek J's Buckhead salon has been arrested, media reports say. Corwin Pledger turned himself in to police Tuesday nearly two weeks after the incident, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. WSB-TV, Channel 2, reported that the suspect dressed in drag to avoid police. According to media reports, Pledger became upset when his client, Neffe Pugh, sister of Atlanta singer Keyshia Cole, went to the J Spot Salon on Pharr Road to have her hair redone after being unhappy with Pledger's work.

Police Release Sketch of Suspect in North Buckhead Robbery

Incident occurred at around 4 p.m. Dec. 5 in parking lot

The Atlanta Police Department has released the sketch of a suspect wanted in the Dec. 5 robbery of a woman sitting in her car in a North Buckhead parking lot. The woman had just left the FedEx at 3637 Peachtree Road and had returned to her vehicle when she was approached by the male suspect at around 4 p.m., police spokesman John Chafee said in a Friday news release. The suspect, who had his hand in his jacket pocket, appeared to be holding a gun and demanded money, Chafee said in a statement. When she replied that she didn't have any money, the suspect grabbed her around the neck and asked for her car keys. When the victim hit her car horn and yelled for help, the suspect grabbed the car keys and ran, Chafee said. According to the police …

Phipps Manager Says Security to Increase

Dewayne Herbert, mall manager at Phipps Plaza, said evening security will be increased after last week's incident in which a woman was held up at gunpoint in a mall parking lot, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
