Readers submitted 140 photos that Patch editors narrowed down to five finalists. Readers cast 251 votes, with 98 votes going for Wilkinson’s “Poker Pirates.” For her efforts, Wilkinson won everlasting glory on the internet and a $200 gift card from Patch, though she doesn't care about the fame or the money. Neighborhood residents gather at Blue Heron Nature Preserve for annual event
North Buckhead neighbors enjoyed their annual Fall Fling Sunday at the Blue Heron Nature Preserve and along Rickenbacker Drive. Youngsters enjoyed a puppet show, pumpkin painting, the making of balloon hats and a stilt walker/juggler. A day before the big day, kids showed their Halloween costumes at the event sponsored by the North Buckhead Civic Association. Older neighborhood residents toured the Blue Heron Nature Preserve's building, where historic surveyors' maps of the area were on display. They also gave Erica Danylchak of the Buckhead Heritage Society information about the neighbhorhood's history. See Buckhead Path for more on the History Day segement of the afternoon.

Event to raise funds for market's permit fees
Kids of all ages, and dogs, can enter a Halloween parade and costume contest Saturday morning at the Peachtree Road Farmers Market. Buckhead's Farm Burger will sell market-inspired sliders, with a portion of the profits going toward the farmers' market fund-raising effort begun with the recent mash-up cooking event. The Halloween costume parade begins at 11 a.m. The market is raising money to help pay for 2012 city permit fees and a city-required police officer so that vendor fees don't have to be increased. The second annual mash-up on Oct. 15 raised $5,877 toward a goal of $6,000, the market said in a news release. More than 2,000 people attended, the farmers market said. Quick pickled turnips made by Lisa Rochon, Heirloom Gardens, …
