Upgraded McDonald's to Replace Demolished Howell Mill McDonald's
The retro, unique-looking McDonald's has been demolished to make room for an upgraded one.
The McDonald's at the corner of Howell Mill and Collier roads was demolished last week, and according to sources, the fast food giant plans to rebuild a newer, upgraded restaurant in its place. The McDonald's was unique with its retro look unlike other McDonald's throughout the state. According to What Now Atlanta, the franchisee has submitted a building permit application to the City of Atlanta earlier this year to build a more efficient 2,184-square-foot McDonald's restaurant on the same site at a cost of about $480,000. The upgrade may be part of the push by the fast food chain to make its stores look more like Starbucks and less like McDonald's, just as Starbucks is trying to be more like a place for evening drinks and small plates. …

It is now clear that this new building is nothing more than a drive thru machine. It will have no windows other than the drive thru openings. They tore down a unique structure that at least had a quirky neighborhood feel to it. We will now have a decorated bunker more appropriate to the Shawshank yard.
