From Patch Reports Lovett's girls beat Carver-Columbus 56-34 Friday night to advance to the second round of the AA state playoffs. Tatianna Jackson led the Lady Lions with 31 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, when Lovett ourscored Carver 22-10, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In other action, Pace's girls, who played in the A state championship game last year, lost a heartbreaker to Gordon Lee on the road, 52-50. Coach Liz Kennedy's Lovett team, the No. 2 seed in Region 6-AA and ranked seventh in the state, impproved to 24-5 on the year with the win. Pace traveled to Chickamauga to play Gordon Lee.

Julius Holder to play at Stetson, and Will Flood at Davidson

From Patch Reports Two Lovett football players signed college scholarships on national signing day Tuesday. Julius Holder, a linebacker, will play at Stetson University, and Will Flood, a defensive end, signed with Davidson, according to an announcement from the Buckhead school. Lovett alum Jonathan Carkhuff also plays at Davidson, the school said. Holder was the Lions' leading tackler in 2011, with 70 solo stops, 26 assists and one sack. In 2010, when the Lions reached the AA semifinals, Holder was also the team's leading tackler with 75 solo stops, five sacks, five caused fumbles, and three fumble recoveries, one of which was returned for a touchdown, the school said. From Patch Reports Two seniors on coach Liz Kennedy's Lovett girls basketball team have signed to continue their careers in college. Tatianna Jackson, who last year eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark for her Lovett career, has signed to play for University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the school announced. Christen Johnson, a dominant force in the paint for the Lions, will travel to the Chicago area and play for the Northwestern Wildcats.

Lovett lacrosse standouts Cory Palmer and Jordan Cunningham made college commitments on the NCAA's early signing day Wednesday. Palmer will play at High Point University and Cunningham at the University of Denver. Both players were named to All-America and all-state teams last year, as well as the Under Armour South team. Cunningham is nationally ranked by ESPN rise.

Galloway finishes third in A boys event
Westminster continued its AA cross-country dominance Saturday at the state meet in Carrollton, with the Wildcats boys taking their fifth straight title and the girls their third, according to Georgia High School Association results. The Wildcats also swept the individual championships, with Sahara Fletcher taking her third straight champsionship with a time of 19:08.89 and Michelle Sullivan placing second at 19:33.20. In the boys' competition, Westminster's Jordan Flowers finished first with a time of 16:32.24, and Jake Candler was third at 16:52.47. The Lions score 28 second-half points to beat GAC
Lovett earned a spot in the GHSA playoffs by upsetting fourth-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian 35-28 Friday night with a stirring second-half comeback at Kilpatrick Memorial Stadium. The 6-AA play-in victory moves Lovett's record to 7-3 on the year. Lovett's Grant Haley opened the scoring with an 72-yard run, reversing field after a few steps and dashing to the end zone for the first of many big plays made by the sophomore. Haley broke away for three touchdowns during the night, including an 84-yard kickoff return and a dash of 47 yards that keyed the Lions' second-half burst. Buckhead teams both have region play-in contests
The Friday night lights will be burning bright in Buckhead this week, as both Lovett and Westminster battle at home for state playoffs spots. Lovett, 6-3 overall and third in Region 6-AA-B at 3-2 after a 21-2 loss to Westminster last week, hosts Greater Atlanta Christian, the No. 2 team in the A subregion with a 2-1 record and 8-1 overall mark. Although GAC boasts the better record, the Spartans will travel to Lovett because it's Subregion B's turn this year to host the region play-in. Wildcats beat Buckhead archrivals on rainy night
Westminster shut down Lovett's offense on a rainy Friday night to take a 21-2 6-AA-B victory and ease the path to the state playoffs. The victory was the 400th in school history, according to the WCAT Facebook page. With the win in the annual "Battle of Buckhead," Westminster will play Decatur in the region play in game. The game will be at 7:30 p.m. next Friday night at Westminster. Lovett falls to 6-3 for the year and 3-2 in 6-AA Division B, and will now likely have to play subregion A powerhouse GAC to extend its streak of making the state playoffs in each of coach Mike Muschamp’s six seasons at the school. New artificial surface named in honor of longtime Lions coach Bill Railey
Lovett, 6-2 overall and 3-2 in 6-AA region action, overwhelmed South Atlanta 32-0 to keep ts state playoffs hopes alive. The Lions bounced back from 31-28 home loss to Blessed Trinity to set up a showdown with Westminster Oc. 28. As part of homecoming festivities, Lovett dedicated a new artificial turf field in honor of former coach Bill Railey. The field is where the lacrosse teams will play their games and has also been home to other teams this fall including the Lions’ 7th grade football squad Railey served as head football coach at Lovett from 1982-2004 and he finished with a record of 200-73. Lions seeking another road win in AA state playoffs
Lovett's softball team in the second round of the AA state playoffs is again on the road, this time to Blue Ridge to play Fannin County. The Lions are depending on the same formula that gave them an opening round win over Heard County last week: Jordan Wolfe's arm and strong hitting. "Jordan Wolfe was incredible once again," coach Mark Bagwell said of his ace pitcher, who allowed Region 5-AA champoion Heard County only five runs in the three-game series, including an opening game shutout.
