Knights Football Poised for Success in 2011

Despite loss of key players to graduation, coach Matt Hall has high expectations

The Pace Academy Knights open the 2011 football season Friday night against Mount Paran Christian, which gave them all they could handle last year. Pace came away with a nail-biting 36-34 win, on their way to a 9-2 season that resulted in the school’s first berth in the state playoffs. Unfortunately they drew perennial powerhouse Lincoln County in the opening round, and the Red Devils overwhelmed the Knights, 49-6. “That was a tough loss, but it was also a good experience,” said Pace head coach Matt Hall. Hall has high expectations for this year’s squad, despite the loss of several star players to graduation, including Will Brewster, Josh Swan, Alex Davis and Arthur Omilian. Brewster was the Knights’ starting quarterback last season but …

Lovett Shows Toughness in Magical Playoffs Run

Fourth-seeded Lions advance to AA semifinals as Westminster, Pace also accomplish strong seasons

Lovett overcame disappointment and tough odds in its unexpected run  to the AA state semifinals.   "There is an expectation within the program to perform at a really high level, and our kids were able to make that happen," Lovett coach Mike Muschamp said about the Lions' incredible late season push.  Following a loss to Buckhead rival Westminster in a key 6-AA game late in the season, the fate of the year was in the air, but the team quickly rose to the challenge. The Lions clinched a playoffs spot with a win over Decatur in the last game of the year. Then, the fourth-seeded Lions won three straight road games to advance to the state semifinals. Muschamp said, "We were disappointed with the lost to Westminster, and the Decatur game was …
