Improvements to Peachtree and Piedmont were discussed as part of the "Building Blocks of Buckhead" presentation, which outlined long-term plans for major projects and improvements in Buckhead by three key community groups.
Editor's note: This article represents the first in a series about the recent "Building Blocks of Buckhead" presentation that outlined Buckhead's 20-year plan, as developed by the Buckhead Community District, Livable Buckhead and the Buckhead Area Transportation Management Association. The future of Buckhead's heavily travelled Peachtree and Piedmont Roads is a bright one if three key community groups — Buckhead Community District (BCID), Livable Buckhead (LBI) and the Buckhead Area Transportation Management Association (BATMA) — are able to see their 20-year plan through. The strategy for fixing many of the problems associated with Peachtree and Piedmont were outlined as part of the "Building Blocks of Buckhead," a 20-year plan for …

Buckhead CID looks at initial analysis of reducing Peachtree from six to four through lanes with a shared, dedicated left turn lane.
The Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID) is currently looking at ways to improve Peachtree Road and it seems like a diet may be in order — a "road diet" to be exact. Anyone who has travelled along Peachtree Road between Maple Drive to the north and Pharr Road to the south has experienced the traffic drama that almost always ensues during peak hours, often as a result of not having dedicated left turn lanes. Drivers headed north and southbound weave in and out of the left lanes as they attempt to utilize them as through lanes, getting caught behind those actually using them to turn left and creating a real traffic problem. Recent full scale models of the Buckhead Atlanta project have Restoration Atlanta already taking up residence at the site.
Is Restoration Hardware really coming to the former site of ESPN Zone in Buckhead? Some developers at the recent Las Vegas International Council of Shopping Centers seem to think so. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle the luxury home furnishings retailer made an appearance in recent full-scale models of the Buckhead Atlanta Project, which is across Peachtree Road from the ESPN Zone site. Earlier reports indicated that discussions for Restoration Hardware to lease the three story property were underway but it was not a sure thing. Buckhead Atlanta, an almost 9-acre project that stalled during tough economic times, was restarted last year by San Diego-based OliverMcMillan and Boston hedge fund The Baupost Group with a $300 million …

The Buckhead Community Improvement district is taking another look at improving the tangled and often discussed intersection of Peachtree, Roswell and Paces Ferry. Public input on any potential fixes will be delayed, but CID members say it won’t be long before they have proposals ready to review, according to the Buckhead Reporter. Buckhead CID Executive Director Jim Durrett said the CID board postponed the scheduled May 17 public meeting while it waits for information from a consultant. The CID has worked with consultant Kimley-Horn and Associates on the project and recently hired Parsons Brinckerhoff to develop a transportation model for the entire CID area. Brian McHugh, director of transportation and planning for the CID, said the …
