The recent heroes of Chastain Park aren't lions, but lambs. On a two-acre section of the Park on Wieuca Road near The Galloway School, 100 sheep and a few goats were brought in to help eliminate invasive kudzu vine in the area. The program, called "Have Ewe Herd??" began with "Breakfast With the Sheep" on June 8, where hundreds of Atlantans came out to Chastain to meet the animals up close. The program is being run by Trees Atlanta. The animals should be at Chastain for another week or so.
Kudzu can get pretty baaaad (pardon the pun) in Atlanta. Trees Atlanta is using an eco-friendly method to rid Chastain Park of the green stuff.

Trees Atlanta and the Chastain Park Conservancy have teamed up to clean the kudzu out of Chastain Park using a method that is organic, environmentally friendly and kind of adorable: sheep. (Don't worry, there will be food for the humans to eat, provided by the Ritz Carlton Buckhead.) The party is free, but please RSVP to the event on Facebook. Chastain Park is just the first stop on the …

I'm very excited to see sheep and goats used in this way. Having raised sheep when I was growing up, I got to witness how good they are at clearing out unwanted vines. They are good at eating poison ivy too. Would love to see them at Henderson Park in Tucker to clear out our poison ivy here!   more ›
