Orly Descendants and Friends Share Private Ceremony

Recently released photo shows some of the descendants and friends gathered for a private event at Woodruff Arts Center.

On the 50th Anniversary of the Orly plane crash in Paris, which figured prominently in the creation of Buckhead and the rest of Atlanta’s present day, the Woodruff Arts Center hosted 150 descendants and friends of those who perished for a simple, but very special private memorial ceremony. The Woodruff Arts Center recently released a photo of last weekend's ceremony that shows the gathering. The chosen spot was at the bronze casting of Rodin’s statue, “The Shade”, which was donated to the people of Atlanta in memory of those who died that day by the French government. Woodruff Holding Events on Orly Anniversary

June 3, the 50th anniversary of the event, will feature free activities at each of The Woodruff’s divisions.

The Woodruff will commemorate the Orly plane crash tragedy through a special Community Day on June 3, the 50th anniversary of the event, with free activities at each of The Woodruff’s divisions, including an art installation from the Musée du Louvre. The plane crash at Paris’s Orly Airport took the lives of 122 arts patrons from Atlanta who were part of a European arts tour planned by the Atlanta Art Association. The tragedy stunned Atlanta’s citizens, galvanizing them to build a Memorial Arts Building that is now part of the Woodruff Arts Center, which celebrates multiple art forms in one location. Win Tickets to Art Auction, Reception Commemorating Orly Plane Crash

Patch is giving away two pairs of tickets to this month's art auction and private reception at the Millennium Gate Georgia History Museum to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Orly air crash.

UPDATE: This contest is now closed and we're in the process of notifying the winners. More info coming... On Saturday May 12, the Buckhead Heritage Society, in partnership with the Millennium Gate Georgia History Museum in Midtown, will bring to life the story of the Orly tragedy through the works of several nationally and regionally renowned artists. The artists have contributed original works interpreting the Orly air crash and its transformative effects on the cultural scene of Atlanta. The art exhibit will be free and open to the public from noon until 5 p.m. It will be followed by a private cocktail reception and art auction beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets for the private reception and art auction are $25 for Buckhead Heritage members and…
