The group issued a statement regarding the incident at McNair Elementary on Tuesday when a gunman entered the school and fired shots.

Official Statement: Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Georgia Chapter Issues Reaction to Shots Fired at McNair Elementary in DeKalb County

Every mother in Georgia is horrified at the thought of children, teachers, and administrators terrorized by the threat of gun violence at McNair Elementary. We are devastated that, once again, a gunman with an assault weapon chose an elementary school as his target. We are grateful to the police department in DeKalb County for their swift action to protect the students and staff. For a mother, there is nothing more frightening than the fear that your child is in danger. This happens too often in America, where gun violence claims nearly eight children every day. We offer our support as the community deals with the lingering impact of gun violence, and we demand our members of Congress and state legislatures to put in place new and stronger gun laws to prevent senseless acts like these from continuing to occur in the future.

About Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

Much like Mothers Against Drunk Driving was created to change laws regarding drunk driving,  Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (www.momsdemandaction.org) was created to build support for common-sense gun reforms. The nonpartisan grassroots movement of American mothers is demanding new and stronger solutions to lax gun laws and loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our children and families. In just eight months, the organization has more than 100,000 members with a chapter in every state in the country.
