Usher's Son Remains in Intensive Care After Buckhead Swimming Accident

The 5-year-old son of pop/R&B superstar Usher Raymond, known simply as Usher, is alive after nearly drowning in a Buckhead-area swimming pool Monday.

Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster Raymond, is now seeking emergency temporary primary custody of her two children following the accident. Usher was granted primary custody of the children last year during a court battle where Tameka Raymond accused Usher of being an absentee father.

Tameka Raymond filed the motion for custody in a Fulton County Superior Court on Tuesday, and a judge approved the motion for custody the same day and granted an emergency hearing scheduled for Friday.

In her motion for custody, Tameka Raymond renewed her arguments, citing that Usher "continues to excessively travel, utilizes third-party caregivers to supervise the minor children rather than personally exercising parenting time and providing supervision for the minor children," according to CNN.

During the near-death swimming accident on Monday, Usher's aunt, a housekeeper and another woman were unable to pull Usher's son from a pool drain after he fell to the bottom of the pool and became stuck. However, two men who were installing sound equipment in the Howell Mill Road home were able to rescue the boy, perform CPR and revive his breathing.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Usher's son, Usher Raymond V, was unable to breathe without the assistance of a breathing tube and was still in the Intensive Care Unit of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, according to 11 Alive.

Usher's former 11-year-old stepson, Tameka Raymond's son, died in a watercraft accident on Lake Lanier in July 2012.
