Buckhead Woman Dies After Fire Ant Sting

A Buckhead woman is dead after she was stung by a fire ant at her Paces Ferry Road condominium pool last week.

According to a report from WSB-TV, Jenny Pomeroy died days after the fire ant sting from complications due to anaphylactic shock.

Pomeroy was the president and CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia.

Drs. Scott Pastor and Amy Hutchinson, co-chairs of the board of Prevent Blindness Georgia, said Tuesday, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jenny’s family.  This is a tremendous loss to the vision community and Jenny will forever be remembered as an innovative thinker and a selfless, dedicated leader in Atlanta and across the state of Georgia. We will miss her deeply.”

Friends of Pomeroy said she was aware of her fire ant allergy and was usually very aware of her surroundings. She was carrying an Epinephrine pen with her on the day of the sting, and immediately after her sting, her husband called 911.

Pomeroy's family is asking for privacy at this time.

The family has asked for privacy during this time. There will be a memorial service on July 31 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30309 with a reception immediately following.
