Craigslist Armed Robbery Leads to Death of Buckhead Businessman's Father

Police in DeKalb County and the City of Chamblee are investigating two Craigslist robberies that resulted in shootings, including the fatal shooting of the father of a Buckhead businessman.

On Aug. 19, Buckhead businessman Jamar Perry and his father, Clarence Gardenhire went to meet someone who responded to Perry's Craigslist ad to purchase cell phones for his new business, which recently opened in Buckhead.

Gardenhire was in town for the birth of his grandson and rode with Perry to protect him, according to a report from WSB-TV.

The two met the potential seller at 11 p.m. in DeKalb County with $375 in cash. The man pulled a gun on the men and when Gardenhire reached for his gun, the suspect fired five to 10 rounds into the car and killed Gardenhire.

Police in Chamblee are investigating a similar Craigslist sell-turned-robbery, which ended in a shooting, to determine if the two incidents are related.
