Buckhead Coalition Publishes Guide to Local Nonprofits

Sam Massell's group supports giving within community

The Buckhead Coalition believes community residents should give to local nonprofit agencies.

To support that view, Buckhead's Chamber of Commerce-type organization has published the "Buckhead Coalition Charitable Giving and Volunteerism Directory," a 20-page booklet that gives detailed profiles of 10 major Buckhead institutions.

The directory gives the organizations' addresses, phone numbers, management, budgets and mission. It also gives a list of social service agencies, houses of worship and educational facilities.

Sam Massell, coalition president, said in a statement that while "there are many thousands of worthy causes," he believes that "special priority should be given those efforts at home."

The coalition receives all of its budget from its membership, the announcement said. However, the coalition "believes strongly that philanthropic donations are best spent in the community from which they originate."
