Update: Car of Missing Buckhead Woman Found

Vehicle had motor running when discovered Dec. 27 by Atlanta police, who took it to city's impound lot

Police officers found the car of missing Buckhead woman Stacey English on Dec. 27, and it was taken to the city impound lot, Police Major Crimes Commander Maj. Keith Meadows said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Missing persons detectives discovered Wednesday that the car, a white 2006 Volvo S60, was in the impound lot, Meadows said. The car's motor was running when it was found by Zone 3 police officers at 215 Lakewood Way, near the Lakewood Amphitheatre, Meadows  said.

The woman, a SunTrust Bank employee who lives in a Buckhead apartment complex, has been missing since Dec. 26. Meadows said she was reported missing to the Atlanta police on Dec. 31 and that missing persons detectives received the case Jan. 1.

Meadows, who emphasized that police have no reason to believe the 36-year-old woman has been the victim of foul play, said detectives ran a check to see if the car was in the impound lot, but it turned up negative. He said police officers are still searching the car.

A male friend of English, whom Meadows said has the name of Kirk and lives in St. Louis, was visiting English in Atlanta before she was reported missing. The two apparently had an argument before she disappeared. The St. Louis man has earlier been identified as Robert Kirk.

Meadows said that Kirk has cooperated with Atlanta police, and that missing persons investigators will travel to St. Louis to question him. He also said the FBI is involved in the case.

Meadows said the man was seen by a security officer at the apartment complex and that the man was asked that a taxicab be called.

A friend of English's, Charlie Garnett-Benson, said after the press conference that Kirk actually went to a security guard next door and asked where he could find a Marriott Hotel. He found a Marriott in the area, and there asked for the cab to be called. No one apparently saw him leave the area.

The family of  English has created a Facebook page and posted a flyer seeking information. Family members and English's friends appeared at the press conference. Meadows denied press reports that the APD was not actively investigating the woman's disappearance.

, the family said. The Atlanta Police Department is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information about her, accrording to the Facebook page. Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell, who appeared at the press conference as a friend of the family, said he will raise an additional $3,000 in reward money.
