Davis Says District Changes Possible for Garden Hills, E. Rivers

APS superintendent says "tweaks" might be proposed in final recommendation to school boad

APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. said Tuesday night that he might propose district changes for and elementary schools in his final redistricting plan. He characterized the possible changes as "tweaks."

Davis said at his community meeting at that the shifts would not involve moves outside of the North Atlanta cluster.

After the meeting, Davis said, "I haven't solved the problems at Garden Hills and E. Rivers to my satisfaction, so I'm looking at a few tweaks." He said any changes would involve "moving a few students back and forth between the two schools."

In his March 4 preliminary recommendations, the subject of Tuesday's meeting, Davis said he would monitor Garden Hills in case a serious overcrowing problem develops. He said critically overcrowded E. Rivers would be rebuilt beginning in autumn 2013.

At the meeting, Associate Superintendent Steve Smith said Davis hopes to post his final recommendations to the school board on the APS web site March 30. Citizens have until March 26 to make comments. The board is to vote on a final redistricting plan April 10.
