Westminster Hosts Buckhead Rotary Tennis Tournament

Top high school teams competing in annual event

Eight top high school tennis teams will battle in Division A of the annual Buckhead Rotary Club Tennis Tournament Friday and Saturday at

The Westminster boys take a 7-1 season record into the tournament. The team's top seven players will compete in Division A, with its eighth through 14th team members playing in Division C. Westminster's girls will also defend their home courts against a strong group of teams.

In the Division A boys, Westminster, Alpharetta, Northview, Pope, Christ Church (S.C.), Walton, McCallie (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Johns Creek will battle. In the girls competition, St. Pius, Peachtree Ridge, Westminster, Alpharetta, Blessed Trinity, Girls Prep, Milton and Woodward will play. The competition begins at 3 p.m. Friday, with action Saturday starting at 8 a.m.

Most Division A action will be at Westminster's home courts on the school campus. The Wildcats boys open with Alpharetta at 3 p.m. Friday on the rear courts. The Westminster girls play Alpharetta at 4:30 p.m. Friday on the rear courts. One match, Northview vs. Pope, will be at HIT Atlanta at 4:30 p.m. 

The tournament will also include divisions B and C for girls and boys. In Division C, Westminster II boys will compete along with Pace. Pace's girls will also take part in Division C.

Along with Westminster's courts, the competition will take place at the DeKalb Tennis Center, HIT Atlanta, the Racquet Club of the South and Blackburn Tennis Center.

The  boys tennis team beat Greater Atlanta Christian 3-2 Thursday. The girls tennis squad defeated Whitefield Academy 5-0 Wednesday and Greater Atlanta Christian 4-1 Thursday for a three-match winning streak.

 girls tennis won for the second straight time Thursday defeating King’s Ridge Christian, 5-0.
