MLK 5K to Benefit Community Nonprofit Organizations

Race Jan. 16 begins at Shops Around Lenox

The MLK Day 5K on Jan. 16 gives local schools, churches and community organizations a special way to raise funds.

Sponsored by , the race is asking community organizations to participate. Each organization that is approved can have runners register in its name, with $5 from each registration going back to the organization. For example, if 100 people register under Team X, the race sponsors will send a check for $500 to Team X’s organization, according to the race's web page. The cost is $25, and $30 on race day.

The race, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Shops Around Lenox parking lot, will circle Lenox Mall and the Buckhead business district upon a USATF-certified course and is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Participants can use the Lenox or Buckhead train stations.

Along with a party after the race, the Henry W. Grady High School's band will form a drumline along the course, keeping the beat for the runners.

Baby joggers and dogs are welcome, the web site said.
